TITLE:
Tunapie Insecure Temporary File Creation and Command Injection
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA34629
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/34629/
DESCRIPTION:
A security issue and a vulnerability have been reported in Tunapie,
which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain
actions with escalated privileges and by malicious people to
compromise a user's system.
1) A security issue is caused due to the "playselection()" function
in src/tuner.py creating temporary files in an insecure manner. This
can be exploited to e.g. overwrite arbitrary files with the
privileges of the user running Tunapie.
2) A vulnerability is caused due to Tunapie not correctly sanitising
certain stream URLs before using them in an "os.system()" call. This
can be exploited to inject and execute arbitrary shell commands by
e.g. tricking a user into playing a specially crafted stream URL.
The vulnerabilities are reported in version 2.1.15. Other versions
may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Restrict access to trusted users only. Play trusted streams only.
